Changing course

“Lana, you know what to do.”  He ordered without instructing Lana.  He then turned his attention to Juniper.  “You must come with me.”  Stalking off, it was apparent to Juniper that she would follow.

"Lana will change course."  He said, "You and I will have a chat."

Communication with Jaz

Juniper stood her ground, “I think I can.  Captain, I have a little bit of currency, so you can drop me off at the nearest port.”

The Captain’s attention turned from Lana, to Juniper.  His black gaze softened, “No, I think I could use you on my crew.”

The woman left Juniper's side to stand near a monitor to the right side of Juniper.  “Captain Myron, you have a communication from Jaz.”

Myron rolled his eyes at Juniper, “I wonder what that man needs now. Patch him through.”

An image appeared in front of the captain, “Jaz, I don’t have time.  So make this brief.”  He ordered.

“I bailed your behind out many times and now I have a favor.”

“What do you want?” Myron asked.

“Okay, I need actors.  I have started a small acting troop only because to make a long story short I inherited my family’s theater.  That is why I contacted you.  Your current choice of employment requires a sort of deceitfulness or for the lack of better words you act.”

Myron responded, “I am not interested.”

“I will not take no for an answer.  Need I remind you of the amount of money I had to pay to bribe the judge to drop the theft . . .”

“Please say no more.”  Myron said with a hand held up.  “What planet is this acting opportunity on?”

“I knew you would see things my way.  Its on Center 3.”

The screen disappeared ending the communication.

Seeing the Bridge

The green haired woman watched her for a few minutes, and then turned.  She walked over to a door. It slid open.  The woman turned and stared at Juniper waiting to be noticed.

Walking forward feeling a bit embarrassed by her behavior, Juniper muttered, "Nice ship."  She once again found herself following someone into strange surroundings. The green haired woman turned several corners before reaching an elevator door.  The woman and Juniper waited, and when the door opened both stepped into the elevator.

The door opened again, into a large room filled with monitors and buttons.  The man, whom the green haired woman called Myron, stood in the middle of the room.  He had braces on the side of his hips.  The man turned to look at who entered his bridge, at least that was what Juniper thought.

“What is she doing here?” The captain asked.

The green haired woman answered, “Good question.  Could you ask another one, maybe a little bit more easy for me to answer?”  She then gave Myron a huge I-am-just-teasing smile.

He did not look amused, “Lana, could you be more dense?”

It was obvious that the man and woman had a conflict that Juniper did not know about. Juniper stammered, “I could just . . .”

Lana cut off Juniper’s statement and then finished it for her, “Leave?”  She laughed, “No, I don’t think you girl are going anywhere.”

Getting into a New place

The man turned looking quite annoyed at the question or was he annoyed about the whole situation.  Juniper could only guess at his mood but his statement did not clear her need to make a good decision. “You’re here aren’t you, so you are a new member of my crew.” He turned his back on Juniper and stalked off.

The green haired woman smirked.  “I guess you are my problem now but that is how Captain Myron deals with things.”  Her non-colored eyes took in Juniper.  “Well, are you staying or going?”  Then she added, “If you are staying know this, the captain is mine, even if he has not acknowledged it yet.”

Before Juniper could answer the loading door made sharp beeping noises then started closing behind her.  The ship lurched off of the ground, forcing Juniper forward into the green haired woman’s arms.  She gasped, “I guess I don’t have a choice.”

“Sure does look like it.” The green haired woman said it took her a moment to set Juniper back on her unsteady feet. “Well, come with me now.  I think I will take you back to our leader, then the Captain can tell me what to do with you.”

“I thought you just said he leaves these matters to you?” Juniper questioned.

A puzzled look crossed the woman’s face, “Oh, I guess I did.  Well, he will be my lover someday so he would have to start trusting me with matters, such as you.”

Juniper did not question the strange lady further.  She just stood there waiting for the green haired woman to take her wherever.  Looking around the bland cargo bay was her only entertainment while she waited.  The bay only had one shuttle in it.  The shuttle did not look big, but after all, what did Juniper know about shuttles.  What did she know about a loading cargo bay anyway, she just assumed that what she saw was normal.  There were boxes against one wall, on the wall that Juniper could see from the corner of her eye she saw netting.  Juniper was so into looking around she did not notice that the woman had moved.

Coming to the Ship

Juniper followed, she looked at her surroundings.  The corridor was only three feet wide and almost seven feet high.  The man, in front of her, filled the corridor.  He was a man with the broadest shoulders, Juniper had ever seen.  He wore a white linen shirt with tight blue cotton pants.  His boots came up to mid calf.  She liked what she had seen earlier and she now admired him from behind.

The other thing she liked, his height.  From her vantage point he had maybe six inches before his head would touch the ceiling.  She followed behind him but sometimes she had to jog a little bit to catch up.  He opened another door, which looked like a carved out wall. Before the door were large cargo containers, Juniper watched the man walk around the cargo boxes. As she followed him she saw a large ship three stories tall and a couple football fields long by her first impression.  She strode with the man up to the ship and up the loading ramp.

A woman who had long green hair and yellow skin greeted him.  She hugged him. “You’re back.”

The man grabbed the woman’s hands and unwrapped them from his person.  “Yes, you think I left permanently Lana?”

“Whose the girl?” the green haired woman asked.

“A new crew member.” He stated dryly. He turned to Juniper. “Come with me.”  He ordered.

Standing there in the opening of a loading ramp a decision had to be made.  Juniper knew she wanted off of this colony and away from her mistress but she did not know, so she asked, “What does becoming a crew member mean?”

Meeting your future for the first time.

The door closed behind them.  Panting and pounding the man’s shoulder, Juniper did not know what to think about what had just happened.  “Put me down!  Put me down!”  She shouted over and over again.

“Your wish is mine to give.” The man said sarcastically.  He slid her body off of his shoulder and gently settled her feet on the ground.  The man did not let her go.  “Do I get a kiss for rescuing you damsel?”

Her blue eyes burned into his black eyes.  She wanted to take a step back.  The man did have black eyes.  It seemed no light was allowed to reflect back at her, not even her reflection.  She stammered, “W-w-why should I give you a kiss.”  She then took in the rest of his face.  He had hard features, long brown eyelashes framed his eyes, and his nose fit his high cheekbones perfectly.  He had full totally kissable lips.  Again she was taken back, she did want to kiss him.

When he saw her change in demeanor from frightened, to curious to sensual, he wondered if she knew that her emotions could be read so easily.  He answered her question, “Because you want to feel my lips on yours, to taste me.”

“Let go of me, you brute!”  Juniper said sternly.

“Well, from sensual to angry in one-point-two seconds. Wow! I never thought someone as beautiful as you would have such a temper.”  He chuckled.

She turned to storm away, but her dignified exit was stymied by a lack of knowledge of where to go.  It became clear to her fast that she had no clue where he had taken her.  For that matter she had no clue now on what she would do next.  Juniper turned to face the man again.  “Well, why did you take me here?”  She asked.

He smiled down at her, “Well, I saw this beautiful woman in rags running from the authorities and I . . . you don’t really want to hear an explanation do you?” He paused, “Why don’t you follow me back to my ship?” He motioned with his left hand for her to go down the empty blue corridor. He took off walking fast.

The Bustling Spaceport

When she reached the bustling spaceport facility she took in the veiw.  She hardly ever was let out of the home of her mistress.  There hung a huge electric sign flashing above the entranceway of the port; it said “Kalawao Space Harbor”. She passed under the huge sign.

Smells and sights assaulted her senses. People walked up to counters with many brand name shuttle carriers, some Juniper recognized when she had left the Earth.  Southwest Shuttle Service, United Shuttle, Northwest Shuttle, and Delta Airlines Shuttle service were names on the signs above the counters in front of her.  The smells came from her left where a food court beckoned her hungry stomach.

Juniper got in line for Southwest Shuttle.  She stood there for several minutes.  People walked up to the counter to punch into the touch computer screen, others talked to attendants.  Juniper waited for her turn.

She was next in line when behind her she heard a woman shout.  “Constable, she is the servant that escaped my home this evening.”

Panicked, Juniper jumped out of line.  The voice was of her mistress.  She turned her head to see the colonies finest, the police, running after her.  She knew trying to leave that woman would be difficult.

She dodged individuals.  Some stepped purposely in her way.  She brushed against those.  Her legs sprinted away from the counters and the food court.  She raced toward the departure gates.

She saw the man before, she plowed into him.  He smiled down at her, and she was certain that the man would help the police since he did trip her.  She was wrong.  He lifted her up over his shoulder in a fireman’s carry.  He then ducked into a cloth covered photo booth with her.  The inside of the booth that would have been a wall opened up and he slipped both of them through the tiny door.
